- Tame
- "Wild" often describes something or someone that is untamed, free-roaming, and not under human control or discipline. "Tame", in contrast, means that an animal or a person has been trained or domesticated to be docile and obedient. For example, a wild horse runs freely in the plains, showing a natural and unrestrained state. A tame horse, however, can be easily ridden and led by humans because it has been trained to follow commands. The difference lies in the degree of submission to human influence and the ability to adapt to human environments.
- Domesticated
- "Domesticated" is closely related to "tame" and is often used to describe animals that have been bred and raised in a domestic setting for generations. Wild animals live in their natural habitats, fending for themselves and following their natural instincts. Domesticated animals, such as dogs and cats, have been adapted to live with humans, relying on humans for food, shelter, and care. They have lost some of the wild characteristics and behaviors and have become more accustomed to living in a human-controlled environment.
- Cultivated
- When used in the context of nature or land, "wild" refers to areas that are unmanaged, overgrown with native vegetation, and untouched by human cultivation. "Cultivated" means that land has been prepared and used for growing crops or nurturing specific plants. A wild field may be full of various wild plants and weeds growing randomly. A cultivated field, on the other hand, is carefully planned and maintained, with rows of crops neatly planted and cared for. In a broader sense, "cultivated" can also describe a person who is refined, educated, and has good manners, which is the opposite of the rough and unrefined connotation sometimes associated with "wild".
- Civilized
- "Wild" can also imply a lack of social order, refinement, or cultural development. "Civilized", however, represents a state of advanced social organization, cultural sophistication, and adherence to social norms and values. A wild tribe in the jungle may live in a more primitive way, following their own traditions and survival instincts without the influence of modern civilization. A civilized society, on the other hand, has laws, education systems, and cultural institutions that promote social harmony and progress. "Civilized" suggests a higher level of human development and social integration, as opposed to the more primitive and unregulated nature of the "wild".
